Description

MANNA ― FRANZ HAAS

Location: Montagna Sulla Strada Del Vino, Bolzano – Trentito Alto Adige
Classification: Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT
Grape varieties: Riesling, Chardonnay, Traminer Aromatico, Sauvignon Blanc

Manna is a truly unique creation by winemaker Franz Haas. This blend of five distinct grape varieties, all cultivated in South Tyrol, a mountainous region in northern Italy, showcases the region’s unique terroir. The dramatic temperature fluctuations, abundant sunlight, and rocky soil contribute to the wine’s finesse and complexity. However, it’s Franz’s expertise and innovative approach that elevate Manna to a masterpiece. Each grape variety is harvested and vinified separately, some in stainless steel and others in wooden barrels. Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc provide refreshing acidity, while Chardonnay contributes a creamy texture. Kerner adds structure, and Gewurztraminer infuses the wine with floral and tropical aromatics. Manna can be enjoyed young for its vibrant character, but it shines with age. Over time, it develops a complex and flavorful profile. The golden hue in the glass is complemented by a powerful and layered nose. Each sip is both lively and sustained, with a creamy and supple texture that belies its underlying tension.

VALLE D’AOSTA GAMAY ― LA SOURCE

Location: Saint Pierre, Aosta – Valle D’aosta
Classification: Valle D’Aosta DOP
Grape varieties: Gamay

Nestled amongst the towering peaks of the Alps, Aosta Valley is a region where rugged mountains meet refined wines. Vineyards cling to steep slopes, producing unique varietals that reflect the region’s dramatic terroir. La Source is a small-sized winery where a group of tiny growers come together to produce wine from their grapes. Gamay is a French variety whose global success is due to the fruitiness of its wines. So, this wine is the result of combining Gamay fruitiness, Alpine environment and small producers’ craftmanship. It is a well-balanced, fruit-driven wine; it is so pure and intense on the nose and so light and refreshing on the palate. It is only made in steel with no oak-contact, to preserve its lean, slender character of a genuine, artisanal wine from the Mountains.

AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA VALPANTENA ― BERTANI

Location: Montagna Sulla Strada Del Vino, Bolzano – Trentito Alto Adige
Classification: Amarone della Valpolicella Valpantena DOCG
Grape varieties: Corvina 80%, Rondinella 20%

Amarone della Valpolicella was invented by mistake. In the Valpolicella region, a common practice to air-dry grapes was used in order to concentrate sugar and produce a sweet wine, called Recioto. Once, in a cellar a batch of wine escaped the cellar master’s control, all the sugar was fermented. The result was a completely dry wine with a high level of alcohol. This wine, created by mistake, was unexpectedly appreciated; so, a new tradition was inaugurated: that of Amarone della Valpolicella. It is a very concentrated wine, robust, intense, complex, long. It is a sought-after bold red wine, one of the most popular of Italy.
